Major new exhibition celebrating evolution of Ireland’s craft and design sector from 1971 – 2021
___________________________________________

The Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) is seeking inspirational makers to take centre stage for a major new exhibition charting the evolution of the craft and design sector in Ireland over the last 50 years.

DCCI was originally formed in 1971 as Crafts Council, and since then the organisation has led the development of the sector over five decades, nurturing the growth of craft business in Ireland and creating opportunities to support makers expand internationally.

To mark this landmark occasion, the National Design & Craft Gallery (NDCG) is producing a major exhibition to pay homage to the many makers whose work has contributed to the rich tapestry of craft and design practice in Ireland. The project will celebrate makers whose work has significant legacy, heralded new approaches or changed the way we look at the world.

NDCG is seeking nominations from DCCI Clients and the Guilds, Associations, Networks & Societies (GANS), as well as curators, design historians, Kilkenny Design Workshop scholars, DCCI current and former board and staff. We invite you nominate a standout maker whose work has significantly impacted the sector over the past 50 years or who most resonates with you. Please tell us why you have nominated your choice of maker and, if possible, please include the title or details of what you see as your nominated makers’ seminal work.

Following the public nominations, an expert committee will have the difficult task of narrowing the selection to 50 makers representing 50 years. The project will result in an exhibition and major publication, with texts invited from key industry experts.

NOTE: You may submit multiple forms if you wish to nominate other makers. The nomination deadline is January 31, 2021.
