Entwined Memories textile exhibition travels to London & Harrogate

The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s (DCCoI) are delighted for the first time to exhibit textile work from its member organisations at The Knitting & Stitching Show in London and Harrogate. The work of leading artists and groups will be presented in professionally curated galleries at The Knitting & Stitching Show in London, Harrogate and Dublin in October and November 2015,

Unravelling the story and hidden details concealed within the pages as threads pass through the layers, connecting past to present, echoing time passing, conveying the order and disorder of live lived.

The textile exhibition Entwined Memories evoked a myriad of responses and inspiration from textile artists and designers. Work in this exhibition was made in response to memories, threads and stories of life and nostalgic tales.

The selected work from 18 makers based in Ireland takes the form of literal or abstract interpretation, functional and non-functional, wearable and non-wearable. The pieces on show are contemporary in design and include a mix of textile media utilising slow and fast craft techniques, handcraft and digital technologies. Work is featured from a mix of established makers and also emerging designer makers such as Ciara Bláth Stapleton; her pieces ‘Seven’ and ‘Rendition 1’ featured in the exhibition use textiles and wire and the concepts of knotting and binding. Fibre artist France Crowe’s work on display is entitled  ‘Songs Sung & Stories Told’, this piece features a tapestry woven with shredded newspaper, weaving the words in to her work as part of the theme and through this work she has also explored new possibilities using new fibres such as paper.

Entwined Memories was first shown at The Knitting & Stitching Show in Dublin 2014 and was exhibited at The Model in Sligo earlier in 2015. It will be exhibited at The Knitting & Stitching Shows in London from 7 -11 October and Harrogate on 26 – 29 November 2015.

Also in November DCCoI are showing their sixth exhibition of textiles in conjunction with its member organisations at The Knitting & Stitching Show, Simmonscourt, RDS, Dublin. Work in 'Thread Song' will show contemporary design in textiles and was inspired and made in response to the life and/or poetry of WB Yeats. On show from 12th - 15th November; it offers an opportunity to view examples of the rich visual and textural possibilities of Yeats’ poetry, taking place during the 150th anniversary of his birth and also during Irish Design 2015, a celebration of Irish design and craft.
