International Academy of Ceramics General Assembly 2014
The International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) General Assembly is a biennial event, which provides both a forum for the debate of contemporary ceramic issues and a showcase for work by members of the Academy from across the globe. In September 2014, the IAC2014 General Assembly will take place for the first time in Ireland with Dublin Castle being the venue for the Assembly’s conference and exhibition programme. This consists of a major exhibition of approximately 160 works by IAC members from every continent as well as a series of exhibitions from a number of countries including Korea, China, Croatia and Norway.
In addition to the economic and cultural benefits to Dublin and Ireland, this provides a unique opportunity for audiences in Ireland to view the very best of international contemporary ceramics. However, in addition to this events’ exhibition programme, IAC2014 Dublin also provides an opportunity to showcase the strength and diversity, of not only those engaged in ceramic practice in Ireland, but of those participating in all areas of contemporary craft and design.
With this in mind, IAC2014 Dublin, in partnership with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, will produce a Dublin Craft Trail, which will be distributed across the city prior to the event and will also have an online application. Bringing studios, galleries and other design and craft venues to the attention of conference delegates and the wider viewing public, the trail will include gallery and studio exhibitions, demonstrations, talks and open days all of which will focus on contemporary craft and design and are due to take place in September 2014.
