Meet the Makers: CREATE at Brown Thomas Dublin, Cork & Limerick 16th - 19th July

Brown Thomas has launched the fifth year of CREATE, a celebration of Irish innovation and design, showcasing the most extraordinary Irish design talent.

This year, Brown Thomas, in collaboration with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, has expanded CREATE to include Irish designers across the disciplines of furniture, lighting, ceramics, glass and gifts as part of Irish Design 2015.

CREATE will feature up to 50 Irish designers from Tuesday 7th July to Sunday 16th August, and will feature on all floors in the Dublin store. Pop ups are also taking place in Brown Thomas Cork and Brown Thomas Limerick from the 21st August to the 14th September and in Brown Thomas Galway from 7th July until 16th August featuring a selection of the designers involved. #BTCREATE

Thursday 16th July: Slated (Stone), meet the maker
Perfected over generations by the Hammond family, Slated creates beautiful refined slate tableware, utilising the traditional artisan methods and techniques. Affordable, premium and extremely innovative, the Slated Collection, born from traditional values and techniques is utterly unique and beautiful.

Friday 17th July: J.HILL's Standard (Glass), demo
Founder Anike Tyrrell works with talented designers to create cut crystal objects that are both functional and beautiful. All pieces are hand-cut in Waterford. The name is taken from John Hill, an 18th Century glass alchemist and innovator. Hill was credited with revolutionising the production of
cut crystal in Ireland and with setting a new standard of quality and material perfection.

Saturday 18th July: Red Rufus (Toymaking), demo
Red Rufus Sock Dogs are designed and created by Christina Sanne, who is inspired by her beloved Irish Setter, Rufus. Christina’s latest collection uses luxury, handmade Irish socks and beautiful Irish tweed. These quality Irish products make a smart, contemporary, yet traditional collection of soft toys.

Sunday 19th July: Foxford Woollen Mills (Textiles), demo
Foxford Woollen Mills creates beautiful pieces by master craftsmen in a working mill that has survived for over one hundred years and is responsible for producing some of the world’s finest weaves, using traditions passed down through generations.

Saturday 18th July: Jerpoint Glass Studio (Glass), meet the maker
Jerpoint Glass is Ireland’s only glassblowing studio that uses traditional handcrafted techniques which have changed little for over two thousand years. Exclusive to CREATE, the new ‘Festival’ collection is individually made by artisan glassblowers, making each piece unique.

Sunday 19th July: Duffy Bookbinders (Bookbinding), meet the maker
Duffy’s is now in its fourth generation in the trade. Its vast experience in the binding trade has led to requests from Popes and Heads of State throughout the world. Duffy’s has created its own unique hand bound notebook especially for CREATE.

Saturday 18th July: Foxford Woollen Mills (Textiles), demo
Foxford pieces are treasured possessions and their designs have been updated to suit contemporary interiors. The Foxford collection includes a large range of interiors and accessories designed for modern living.
