A message from the Client & Member Support Taskforce

Posted 03.04.20

I sincerely hope that you and yours are safe and well during these troubling times and would like to take this opportunity to extend our best wishes from the Board and all of the team at Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI). Our greatest priority at this time is to support you and keep in regular contact regarding the latest information available.

In response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), Breege O’Donoghue, Chair of DCCI has convened a Client & Member Support Task Force which I am honoured to chair. Together with my fellow Board members Paul McKeown, Donagh Quigley and Eddie Shanahan who also sit on this Task Force, we are monitoring the current situation in consultation with the DCCI team, working to ensure that every resource possible is utilised to guide and assist you and your business through this unprecedented time.

As our focus for the upcoming months will be on limiting, wherever possible, the impact of COVID-19 on the livelihood and well-being of those working in the design and craft sector, we would ask you to please respond to our brief online survey. This short questionnaire will assist us in identifying common concerns and challenges, and what supports may be of most benefit. Thank you in advance for your participation. In addition, we will be contacting as many clients and members as possible by phone over the coming weeks. If you don’t hear from someone and would like to have a chat, please let us know by contacting our Chief Executive, Rosemary Steen at ceo@dcci.ie.

In the meantime, we have a few updates to share:

Get Ireland Making programme
DCCI is delighted to be part of a Government-led interagency initiative announced earlier today which includes DCCI’s Get Ireland Making programme supported by Creative Ireland and Healthy Ireland. The programme’s ambition is to engage the public and the design and craft community in activities designed to maintain well-being and build resilience. It will commission makers to share their knowledge of materials and process through activities which will be live-streamed on DCCI’s website. We encourage all clients and GANS to consider how they could get involved in this exciting national project – see: dcci.ie/getirelandmaking

Webinars for designers and makers
Our series of webinars is underway as part of our overall support for the sector over the coming weeks. These webinars, which are free and open to all clients and GANS members, take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 3pm. Upcoming sessions include Digital Marketing during the Crisis on Monday 6 April and Producing Video for Websites and Social Media on Wednesday 8 April. As places are limited, you are encouraged to view the schedule and register in advance. We are also launching a call out for makers to participate in MasterCraft Talks, providing the opportunity to share learnings for the benefit of other makers through a series of webinars – further details including how to apply can be seen on our website here

DCCI web content
Please visit the DCCI website regularly as content is being updated on an ongoing basis:

  • The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) webpage is kept up to date and outlines some of the relevant supports available from Government in response to COVID-19, directing you to where you can find further information online. If there are any key topics you would like to suggest for inclusion in the FAQ, please let us know.
  • Be sure to check out the current opportunities as closing dates have been revised in order to allow additional time for applications.
  • Resources to provide an insight into Generation, the current exhibition at the National Design & Craft Gallery, are being shared through the Gallery’s social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram while it is temporarily closed to visitors. Over the coming weeks, you can view interviews with the featured makers, recorded introductions by the curators, image slideshows and more.

The DCCI team remains fully available to support you over the coming weeks and months - contact details for the team can be found on our website here. Updates are regularly posted and shared on DCCI’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn platforms and we will continue to reach out to our clients and members through weekly emails.

Wishing You All the Best,
Mary Palmer
