The death has occurred of Rudolf Heltzel, an icon of Irish craft and design

Posted 19.04.20

It is with a heavy heart we say farewell to Rudolf Heltzel, a gentleman and true icon of Irish design.

Having trained in Germany and Sweden, Rudolf was invited to Ireland to lead the goldsmithing workshop at the Kilkenny Design Workshops. In 1968 he set up his atelier on Patrick Street, Kilkenny - where he brought a wholly new style of precious jewellery to Ireland. Inspired by nature, geometry, music and art, Rudolf designed ambitious, sculptural jewellery which perfectly balanced strength and finesse. His talent endeared him to generations of discerning collectors. Throughout his lustrous career Rudolf consulted internationally and continued his involvement in education, inspiring new generations of goldsmiths. A shining star, he will be sadly missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to Eva, Chris, Julian, Rudolf’s extended family, colleagues and friends.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
