Update on Centres of Excellence programmes provided by Design & Crafts Council Ireland

Posted 06.05.20

Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) wishes to provide an update on plans for the educational courses provided at its Centres of Excellence.

DCCI has two Centres of Excellence – Ceramics in Thomastown and Jewellery & Goldsmithing in Kilkenny City. Each offers an intensive two-year programme accredited by Maynooth University.

DCCI is currently considering the implications of the roadmap for reopening society and business announced by An Taoiseach on 1 May 2020.

Due to the challenges presented by COVID-19, DCCI will now enable the current cohort of ceramics students to complete the final part of their two-year programme by December 2020. DCCI will also be pausing the next intake of ceramics students for the programme that would have been due to commence in September 2020. This decision has been made in the best interests of the students.

DCCI is planning for the final year programme at its Centre of Excellence in Jewellery & Goldsmithing to resume in September 2020.

Consultations are underway with students, tutors and stakeholders.
