Lydia Clayton

Lydia Clayton graduated with BDes (Hons) in Craft Design specialising in Metalwork & Jewellery from the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), Dublin in 2016. It was at NCAD that Lydia’s fascination with the world of jewellery started. Following her graduation, Lydia moved to the Netherlands where she trained with master goldsmith Froukje Idsardi. Here, she received one-to-one practical jewellery tuition and also played a key role in the day-to-day running of Froukje’s thriving creative and innovative business. Lydia wanted to expand her skills even further so she applied to the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s (DCCoI) Jewellery & Goldsmithing Course for the intensive two-year programme.

Lydia was given the opportunity to go on work experience with goldsmith and diamond setter Nigel O’Reilly. During her time with Nigel she gained valuable knowledge about becoming a diamond setter and she will continue her training with Nigel in a full-time position after graduation. Ultimately, Lydia’s future plans are to set up a studio/gallery in Ireland to sell high-end bespoke jewellery to private clients.

“I found the design element of this course most enjoyable. I loved the process of taking a drawing and creating a finished piece inspired by my own personal research.”
