Sarah Power graduated from Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) in 2015 with a BA in Fine Art, specialising in Sculpture. After graduating, she began to pursue her interest in traditional goldsmithing through evening classes at the School of Jewellery in Dublin. There, she was inspired by the tutelage of Paul Coyne, a graduate of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) Jewellery & Goldsmithing Course. Recognising the impact that studying at the DCCoI Centre of Excellence in Jewellery & Goldsmithing had on his career and his industry employability, she hoped that undertaking the course would hone her creative and technical skills and improve her knowledge of the industry. While on the programme Sarah gained the opportunity to undertake a three-week work placement in Appleby Jewellers in Dublin where she earned valuable experience. Sarah feels that jewellery design has combined her life-long passion for making with her interest in creative arts and has become focused on gaining further employment in the industry upon graduating.
“This course has exceeded my expectations, I have learned so much in the last two years and it has really prepared me to work within the jewellery trade.“
