What’s On

Craftsmen have been inspired by Ireland’s landscape for centuries. Celebrating this heritage, a new wave of makers is flying the flag for Irish design with a season of events.

Design and craft have long been intertwined within Irish culture, driven by necessity and aided by the landscape and its abundant natural resources. The tradition of craftsmanship and respect for raw materials are now inspiring a new design philosophy and attitude as emerging talent enters the sector.

Design Ireland at Heal’s celebrates this vibrant scene, bringing together the country’s most innovative and exciting designers. Participants range from start-ups to family businesses established many generations ago, all of whom are connected by a strong sense of place and innovative approach to their craft.

Part of Heal’s Modern Craft Market, this is the first group exhibition of Irish designers and makers at the store since the world famous Kilkenny Design Workshops exhibited in 1967 and 1972.

Thousands of designers and makers now live and work in both urban and rural communities across Ireland, with this three week event highlighting the significant contribution their dedication has brought to both the country’s economy and culture.

From ceramics to woodwork, a series of in-store demonstrations will give visitors an insight into the process behind each piece with designers including Adam Frew Ceramics, Bunbury Boards, Superfolk, Joe Hogan, Arran Street East and me&him&you.
