Na Píobairí Uilleann
The Society of Uilleann Pipers known as Na Píobairí Uilleann was founded in 1968 at grassroots levels by pipers themselves, with the aim of perpetuating the spirit of Irish music. Since the society was formed the number of pipemakers, many working in a professional capacity, has grown to over 40 throughout the world.
Teaching is provided voluntarily on a weekly basis at the societies’ home and at other locations throughout Ireland, weekend masterclasses in piping and reedmaking are also held. Photographic exhibitions on pipes and piping with video material and recorded music are organised from time to time travelling to libraries and art centres in Ireland and abroad. The society has a worldwide membership.
Activities:
Seasonal schools, workshops, classes, festivals and commemorative events.
Who Can Join:
Full membership is restricted to Uilleann Pipers. Associate membership is open to any person not a piper, provided that a simple majority of the council is in favour of his/her admission.
