Na Píobairí Uilleann (NPU)

Na Píobairí Uilleann (NPU) is delighted to have achieved the Investors in Diversity Silver Award from the Irish Centre for Diversity. (see press release below)

The Award reflects the successful work carried out to date by NPU to embed Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) across the organisation, work that is increasingly important given the diverse interest in the uilleann pipes, both nationally and globally, and the emergence of new voices in Ireland.

NPU Chief Executive Gay McKeon said: “We are delighted with the progress made by Na Píobairí Uilleann to date which has been endorsed by the receipt of this Award. It is a very significant milestone in our journey, striving for excellence in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion

The Ros Tapestry

A Tale Told in Thread

The Ros Tapestry exhibition has drawn in thread the story of the Normans and their arrival in the Southeast of Ireland and the consequent development of the dynamic port of Ros is depicted in a series of fifteen large striking embroidered panels.

The exhibition is on show in Kilkenny Castle until 1st September 2023 @ 5:30 pm.

Irish Woodturners Guild

Panel discussion about Irish woodturning, the closing event of the 'After the Fall' exhibition is now available on YouTube.

Curator Stephen O'Connell and artists Roger Bennett, Liam O'Neill and Max Brosi discuss the recent history of woodturning in Ireland, woodturning as an artistic practice and also touch upon broader issues relevant in the world of woodturning and craft.

Borris Lacemakers Common Threads: Laces Across The Border. This project ran throughout August and September 2020 and culminated in the creation of two collaborative art pieces and a series of films called 'Stories from home' which was premiered in a virtual event in October 2020 - Common Threads: Laces Across The Border. Irish Society of Stage and Screen Designers  

Irish Society of Stage and Screen Designers (ISSSD) have launched their 'Stage Left' podcast. Each episode covers different aspects of scenography and its processes with designers from all disciplines at a variety of stages in their careers. 

Headford Lace Project

Congratulations to Ed Coulson and all at Claremorris Community Radio who were honoured for their production The Headford Lace Story at the 2021 Community Radio Ireland Achievement Awards recently. Not only did the programme receive a GOLD award but also with the Standout Award for commissioned programmes. If you haven’t had a chance yet you can listen to The Headford Lace Story here.

Borris Lace

Borris Lace was featured on KCLR's The History Fix Series. Presenter Mary Ann Vaughan learned about the history of Borris Lace from some of the women who’ve revived the tradition in recent years. You can listen back here.

Headford Lace Project ‘The Space Between’ exhibition curated by Fiona Harrington, was an international exhibition of lace, comprising artwork selected from 34 artists, from 11 countries across 4 different continents, all unified by one common interest – LACE . Glass Society of Ireland

The Glass Society of Ireland launched their publication which aims to represent the broad and diverse practices of glass artists within Ireland and both historical and contemporary developments in glass practices worldwide.

The Irish Guild of Embroiderers The Irish Guild of Embroiderers launched their book 'Twenty Twenty' in November to celebrate 20 years of the organisation it is available to purchase from their website.
Benchspace Cork

Benchspace Cork are delighted to welcome jewellery makers Annemarie Reinhold and Alex Thiel Goldsmith to the workshop. Alex specialises in remaking vintage jewellery into stunning modern designs and Annemarie creates amazing nature inspired pieces. You can check out their profiles here.

Na Píobairí Uilleann New video featuring some past students of the instrument making course in conjunction with BCFE. From September onwards, this course will include harp and mandolin/mandola making in addition to uilleann pipes, flute and whistle. You can find our official press release with all info here. Peannairí Calligraphy Ireland

Peannairí are pleased to announce that they will offer a short series of presentations on the History of Calligraphy.
National College of Art & Design (NCAD) National College of Art & Design, Dublin ‘The Reprint Project’, an innovative collaboration between National College of Art & Design and Kingspan Water & Energy. The research project explored how digital technology offers new tools for engaging with materials. The results included an innovative exhibition of wearable art. Find out more here.
