Bursaries & Beyond Seminar

Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) will host a seminar 'Bursaries & Beyond' at the Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle on 28 February 2020. This seminar has been programmed as part of the educational activities for the National Design & Craft Gallery’s current exhibition ‘Surface Matters’.

Date: Friday 28 February 2020
Time: 9.30am - 1pm.
Cost: €10/€5 group rate
Venue: The Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle

The seminar will explain the fundamentals of applying for bursaries and the benefits that they bring, and is suitable for emerging and established makers, as well as students of craft and design.

Speakers will include members of bursary judging panels, programme managers, and designer-makers from a variety of craft disciplines who have received bursaries. Each speaker will share their individual perspectives on bursary application processes.

Speakers Include:

  • Liz Cooper: judge of the RDS Irish Craft Bursary 2019 - 2020 and curator of the PORTFOLIO Critical Selection 2019 – 2020 exhibition ‘Surface Matters’.
  • Ciara Garvey: Development Manager, Collector & Tourism Programmes, DCCI.
  • Edmond Byrne: contemporary glass maker and winner of the RDS Irish Craft Bursary 2018 - 2019 for his work in collaboration with Adi Toch, Metal Artist.
  • Seliena Coyle: jewellery designer, PORTFOLIO member and winner of the RDS Irish Craft Bursary 2019 - 2020.
  • Ed Coveney & Esther Gerrard of Elements of Action, DCCI Future Makers Award Winners.
