A proposal is being developed to run a National August Craft Month in Ireland from 2021.
In past years, August Craft Month in Northern Ireland has been a celebration of craft as well as an important event to profile the sector and encourage investment. Exhibitions, open studios, workshops, pop-up shops, talks and demonstrations are all part of the activities. Cork Craft Month has also had a positive effect on craft awareness, studio visits and sales for makers. From small beginnings 10 years ago, the Cork Craft Month 2019 programme included nine exhibitions, 15 workshops, six demonstrations, studio trails and more.
Because they are passionate about the idea of August Craft month becoming a National event, Mairead McCorley has volunteered to collate all proposals that will help to develop this initiative nationally in 2021. The aim is to make this an annual event which captures the imagination of locals and visitors alike. Mairead McCorley is a craft business owner, member of Cork Craft and Design, a Board member of DCCI and the DCCI Culture & Community Sub-committee. Mairead is supported in this initiative by Mary Palmer, Board member of DCCI and Chair of the DCCI Culture & Community Sub-committee.
Whether you work as an individual or as part of a group, you are invited to consider planning an event or events in August 2021 that can be added to a nationwide calendar and promoted as part of DCCI’s 50th Anniversary.
A limited amount of funding will be available through DCCI Network Supports. For large-scale events and activities, you are encouraged to source additional funding through Creative Ireland, Local Authorities, Local Enterprise Offices or Fáilte Ireland.
The hope is that by August 2021 we will be in a position to hold craft-related exhibitions, open studios and workshops in counties across Ireland. This will be a wonderful and much needed boost for Irish craft that we hope will become a significant national event going forward.
Please complete this application form below and forward your ideas and proposals to Mairead and Mary at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have any queries, please feel free to email or to call.
