The simple joy of producing things by hand for other’s to enjoy every-day is a source of constant fulfillment. I’ve always enjoyed creating in 3-D. Even as a small child I’d have a project on the go. It was no surprise that I specialized in Clay while studying at Crawford College of Art and Design. I graduated with a HND in Ceramic Product Design. I am primarily a hand builder, I enjoy the asymmetry and purposeful imperfections that the build brings to my work. I find it more agreeable to me than rigid perfection. I slab build flat ware and I’ve started to coil build more elevated pieces. My inspiration lies between function and the clay itself. Both inform my design process, inspiring and dictating in equal measures. I work in stoneware, a school buff and also a heavily grogged clay. The play of the robust with the delicate makes me happy. My work is continually evolving, I find the clay is constantly driving me to explore new avenues, techniques, glazes.
