Privacy Policy

Who are we?

We are Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI), Castle Yard, Kilkenny, R95 CAA6, Ireland (‘we’, ‘us’). This policy sets out how DCCI will use any personal data the entrant (‘you’) provides for the purposes of the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition.

DCCI is committed to protecting the personal data provided by Entrants and takes the security of this information very seriously.

You have the right to make a complaint at any time to the Data Protection Commission, whose details can be found at www.data protection.ie. We would, however, appreciate the chance to deal with our concerns before you approach the Data Protection Commission, so please contact us in the first instance.

The information we collect about you and its sources

  1. We will collect personal data about any person included in an entry submitted by you to the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition; and
  2. you, when you enter the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition or contact us about the competition.
  • We will ask you to provide the following types of information:
  • Your Personal Details (e.g. name, title)
  • Your Contact Details (e.g. address, email address, phone number)
  • Contact and personal details of third parties as relevant to your submission

Where you provide third-party personal data, we may ask you to provide evidence that you have collected the necessary consent from such individuals.

How we use your personal data

DCCI will use your data for the following purposes and which legal bases we rely on to do so:

  • To enter you into and assess his/her entry for the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition (including any public voting)
  • To advise you about the progress of his/her entry
  • To deal with your enquiries and requests regarding the Competition
  • To correspond with you about the Competition, including notifying if you are a winner or runner-up and making this public
  • Category of Personal Data
  • Your personal details
  • Your contact details
  • Your business details
  • Images of products or employees as submitted by the entrant
  • Legal basis for processing
  • Consent

Purpose of processing

  • If you are a winner or runner-up, promote the Competition through public relations activity (including appearing in the local press and social media)
  • Category of Personal Data

  • Your Photograph, image or voice
  • Interview with you (recorded or live)
  • Video of you (recorded or live)
  • Images or non-confidential competition information used for promotional purposes.

Change of purpose

We will only use your data for the purposes for which we collected it unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason, and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. If you wish to get an explanation as to how the processing for the new purpose is compatible with the original purpose, please contact us.

If we need to use your personal data for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you, and we will explain the legal basis which allows us to do so.

Please note that we may process your personal data without your knowledge or consent in compliance with the above rules where this is required or permitted by law.

Who may we share your personal data with?

Where appropriate, we may disclose your personal data to:
Individuals or organisations on the judging panel for the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition

  • The general public for the purposes of any public voting as part of the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition
  • Organisations who help run and administer the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition, such as print houses, ad agencies
    IT service providers who host our data
  • Approved publications companies, such as the local and national newspapers, to promote the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition
  • Social media channels to promote the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition
  • Relevant government bodies such as the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment

We may also disclose personal data to third parties in the following circumstances:

  • Where we sell any of our business and/or assets to a third party where we are legally obliged to disclose your information

We require all third parties to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with the law. We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes and only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions.

In exceptional circumstances, regulators and law enforcement agencies may also request your information from us, and we will provide them with your information only when there is a legal basis to do so.

Data security

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those employees, agents, contractors and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your personal data on our instructions, and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

How long will we store your personal data?

Entrant data will be retained for 18 months from the date of the Awards Ceremony for the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition unless you are a winner or a runner-up or your data has been selected and approved for use by you for research purposes.

In the case of winners and runners-up, personal data will be retained for 18 months from the date of the Awards Ceremony for the Irish Business Design Challenge Competition.

Do we transfer your personal data outside the EEA?

All Entrant data is stored on the Award Stage Platform servers, which are managed and operated by the UK Company, Oval Systems Limited t/a AwardStage. This means that your personal data will be stored in the UK, which has been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data by the European Commission.

Your rights

You have the right to know what personal data we hold about you and to be provided with a copy, and to have any inaccurate information corrected.

You may also have the right to object to or restrict some of the processing we have described above. You may also exercise the right to data portability and erasure of personal data. You may also withdraw any consent you have given us, but this will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew your consent.
