Irish Design Week 2024 - Imagination for Opportunity
An Introduction from our Programme Director - Tom Watts
View programmeThe depth of creative talent in this country is absolutely awe-inspiring and the best part of organising Irish Design Week 2024 is meeting and getting to work with so many exciting Irish Designers.
Not only are there many young, up and coming designers, but there are also many inspirational stories of people who are in the later stages of their career and have chosen new paths towards design and craft.

Our 2024 theme: ‘Imagination for Opportunity’
The theme ‘Imagination for Opportunity’ was borne out of the international discussion around imagination playing a central role in designing our way out of the climate, housing and other crises. Opportunity, then, reflects our remit to focus on enterprising ideas and solutions so that they can become commercially viable.
An international line-up
The lineup this year also includes many international names and organisations who have been drawn to the ‘Imagination for Opportunity’ theme.
An extensive programme of events
We need big ideas, as we are not going to solve the problems we face with the same approaches and linear thinking of the past. We have invited international speakers from the world of climate, fashion, gaming, architecture, impact investing, interior design and communication design to join us from November 11 -15 to look at inspirational projects happening all over the world that may hold answers for Ireland also.
I believe Irish designers benefit hugely from having a seat at the Government table. This is a legacy that stretches right back to 1960 when industrial design was moved from the Arts Council to Coras Trachtala (now Enterprise Ireland). As a result, we are fortunate that Irish Design Week is wholly funded by the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment, which gives us the freedom to focus on thought leadership, opportunities and optimism - something that every designer needs.
