About Irish Design Week

Celebrating Irish craft and design with nationwide events

Focusing on why design matters and how it drives the Irish economy

Convened by Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI), Irish Design Week focuses on why design matters and highlights issues around sustainability, diversity and inclusion.

A wide range of workshops, exhibitions, talks and conferences take place throughout Ireland over the course of the week.

As well as a full programme organised by DCCI, the Irish design community are invited to contribute their events to the schedule to help ensure a wide range of audiences is catered for.

Why folklore?

With Irish Design Week we are continuing the approach we took for our inaugural year, last year, and including as diverse a range of people and conversations as possible.

This year’s theme: Is Folklore the Future? explores Ireland’s rich heritage of folklore and storytelling – currently topics being discussed in international design circles.

Inclusivity by its very nature challenges norms and boundaries. It also asks us to broaden our minds and adapt to the unusual. Considering the crises we are facing in the next few decades, that is a skill set we are going to need more than ever.
