Almha McCartan

Almha McCartan

Almha creates wallhangings, quilts and cushions with patchwork and hand painted fabrics using repetitive hand-painted motifs and patterns in contrast with minimalist blocks of colour. Visually, Almha is inspired by abstract expressionism, traditional quilting, rural Irish landscape, domestic textiles and urban construction. Almha is committed to sustainability and craft in her practice. She uses Irish or European Linen and secondhand fabric. Each piece is carefully crafted by her in her studio - she prints, stitches and constructs every piece with delicate skill and care. Almha McCartan is an artist and facilitator from Ireland based in London. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2021 with an MA in Textiles and NCAD in 2017. She was awarded the Graduate Studio Award at Craft Central in 2022, the Making and Momentum Artist Prize 2022 and most recently was awarded a grant from The Eaton Fund in 2023.
