Rebecca Philbin Ceramics

Rebecca Philbin Ceramics

Rebecca Philbin is an Irish sculptural ceramicist from Galway, she draws inspiration from the fact that it is innately human to question our existence and explore our environment, looking for existential truths in the natural shapes, patterns and objects that surround us. She is interested in natural order and the fragile balance of nature. Everything has its place and purpose from the microscopic to the macroscopic. Rebecca is especially interested in geometric objects and patterns not usually seen by the naked eye. She likes to bring these images to the forefront in her work, they are the keystones to our very being, the larger is to the smaller, without cells, microbes, diatoms etc.. we would cease to exist. Rebecca likes to hand build in a range of low-fire clay bodies, and also uses slip casting methods to create a series of outcomes, based on geometric shapes that occur in the natural environment.
