Claire Hurley

My work is concerned with the interface between our emotional world as individuals and the world around us. I am interested in exploring the space between stimulus and response, and how we express ourselves through costume and adornment fascinates me. I design and create wearable art head and body pieces, using sustainable and recycled materials as much as possible. I have recently begun using a laser cutter and have been enjoying finding new ways to work with it using recycled materials to create unique pieces, sometimes in combination with natural materials. My degree in Archaeology (B.A.Hons, UCG 1995), reflects my lifelong fascination with ancient culture and heritage, but also how it informs our future and how we can move forward taking inspiration from the past and reinterpreting and applying it for our very different world today.
