Meet our Members

Mary is the creative force behind Gléasta.

Her love of sewing began at a very young age, inspired by watching her grandmother and mother make their own clothes. She started by making clothes for dolls and gradually progressed to creating her own garments. After finishing school, Mary pursued her passion by studying at The Grafton Academy of Dress Design in Dublin, where she earned her diploma. She went on to work for many years as a childrenswear designer.

Every day is different in the studio. I have to cover all aspects of the business. It could be a day spent sewing or working on a new design or a day catching up on ordering and searching for supplies. Running a business even a small one involves a lot of variety.

I love creating a new design.

What’s the most challenging part of your craft?

What I find most challenging is finding suppliers who will supply a small business.

Where do you get your inspiration?

All the wonderful artists and crafts people in Ireland. Whether they are in business or just crafting for a hobby, there is a wealth of inspiration here.

What made you choose your discipline?

I love handbags and I love sewing.

What would you say to anyone thinking of becoming a DCCI member

I would highly recommend becoming a member DCCI because you are part of a community and you feel connected to other crafters.
