Knitted observes today’s practice around knitting in a small town in Donegal. The images from this photographic series explore fading traditional skills, local industry, landscape and the people informing a sense of place.

Portraits of knitters, sit together with locals styled in contemporary knitwear by Irish designers. Hand knitted or machine made, the process continues to bind community. The Kilcar yarn factory, blending history and innovation, features throughout the series, musing on materiality. The series honours a craft, its people and prompts reflection on how knitwear is evolving today.

The event in Dublin combines photography, sound installation and a panel discussion. This collaborative project is presented by photographer Linda Brownlee and stylist Aisling Farinella.

Brownlee’s contemporary observations on the storytelling of knitting combine image and sound in an abstracted documentary process.

Farinella interjects a local narrative with a current reflection on Irish design and knitwear.

Exhibition design and presentation of this project is supported by curator and art director Dee Morgan Smyth.
