Jane Walsh is the creator and artist behind the colourful workshop that is Button Studio. She has always been inspired by colour and the effect that it can have on people’s state of mind. Button Studio was created out of this curiosity and her love for taking everyday objects and turning them into pieces of art to preserve and enhance them. To Jane, everyday objects are anything that has found its way into a person’s heart.
She loves buttons for their colour, their range of sizes and shapes, and how they are connected to people in all sorts of ways. Buttons can hold lots of different meanings – from the castaway buttons in a family’s old tin, to buttons on a newborn’s baby-grow or on a favourite jumper. Buttons are a little piece of a life story that might otherwise be lost… until Jane catches them and places them somewhere where they can be treasured forever.
Creative chaos Is the best way to explain it … I work best as night so I usually start the big projects and orders and creations when my two small children are tucked up in bed and I can get into my flow. I dip in and out of the studio when I can doing emails , online orders, mentoring sessions and zooms .. Each day is different which i love and I can tailor my work around my family which I will be forever grateful.
Swim in your own lane. Do your homework, find a gap, make it yours, and own it. If you don't enjoy creating something, don't do it. Price yourself correctly—if you don't charge what you're worth, no one will.

Button Studio
I’ve always been a positive, creative outgoing person – and that is reflected in my work. I’m at my happiest when I am creating a piece that I know will add value to someone’s life – be evoking a memory, creating an emotion or by simply making them smile.
I work primarily with colour – and love to use objects like buttons to create pieces that have layers of meaning. No two pieces will be exactly the same – and no two people will take exactly the same feeling from them. That is the joy of the creative process – when you instil it with emotion and meaning it resonates differently for every person.
When I achieve this, I know I have created a piece that matters.
Anything made from some of my talented friends. If I could collect people I would they are fascinating but that’s not allowed so collecting their Art is second best , I collect pieces I love from people I like. Jewellery from Lynsey De burca, Marien lynch, Alan Ardiff. Ceramics from Diem pottery. Rita Oates art pieces.
How do you start your day?
With a Bang!! I work late so mornings are not my friend. I am pretty organised so whatever I can do before I go to bed I do which makes it easier. Always start my day with a Morning hug from my kids.
When the kids go to bed and I can escape to my warm bright studio and get lost.
How do you switch off?
I love to run , it clears my head, I feel so much better AFTER .. it is torture during but so worth it for my mental health.
What’s the first thing you do when you leave studio?
