What is IMEALL? 

In nature, some of the most vibrant and resilient ecosystems emerge at the edge, where different environments meet. These transition zones, known as ecotones, are places of exchange, adaptation and innovation.

Ireland’s islands occupy a similar space.

The indigenous knowledge, oral traditions and practices that have endured through Ireland’s colonial past continue to offer valuable insights for its future, revealing models of resilience, community and stewardship that remain deeply relevant today.

Aran knitwear, stone walls, Dun Aengus, all of these were designed and evolved furthermore through ingenuity and the inventiveness of island dwellers. In a “reverse-russian-doll” what can the smaller islands teach the large island, and what can the continent then learn from that? As Ireland takes on the Presidency of the EU, a unique opportunity presents itself.

Hosted in the unique landscape of Inis Mór, participants will hear from makers, industry leaders, policymakers and cultural organisations who are shaping the future of place-based creative economies.
