Our Purpose & Vision

DCCI Academy (DCCIA) provides education, training and apprenticeships for the craft and design community in Ireland and internationally.

In 2022, Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) celebrated its 50th anniversary supporting the craft and design makers and creators across the island of Ireland.

As we move into the next 50 years wecontinue to build on the unique legacy of Irish Design and Craft, by future proofing craft skills excellence. DCCI recognises the critical role that education, training and apprenticeships play in the future of Irish supported by craft and in the preservation of our cultural heritage, as well as the contribution they make to Irish society.

To provide an inclusive environment in which professional knowledge, skills and techniques can be delivered through interdisciplinary education future proofing Ireland’s craft and design industry.

Our Vision


 

Our ambition is to provide a new model for creative education by providing an environment that champions creative expression and transformative thinking allowing Ireland to be recognised as a centre of excellence for its rich culture of design and craft.

Looking to the future

Our training and education is built on 50 years of experience but it also looks to the future with an emphasis on new technologies, the circular economy and national and international partnerships.

We work with higher educational institutions and accreditation bodies including ATU and Tangent at Trinity College to provide courses of excellence, with innovation and entrepreneurship at their core.

Thomastown Jewellery School

Our new state of the art Jewellery school in Thomastown is set up to train the next generation of silver and goldsmiths.

We are excited to welcome the first cohort of Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Jewellery and Goldsmithing students to Thomastown in September 2024. The students will be based in Thomastown for three years, following the ATU academic calendar.
