Press Releases

Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) returns to Bord Bia Bloom this bank holiday weekend, bringing 65 makers together from across Ireland to celebrate the very best of Irish design and craft. Over five days designers, makers and craftspeople who are part of the Made Local campaign, will present and sell their work to an expected audience of more than 100,000 visitors.

More than 150 applications were received for this year’s showcase, with 65 makers selected to participate. DCCI’s Irish Craft Village will feature 52 retail stands showcasing a broad range of disciplines including ceramics; glass; jewellery; metal; print and paper; textiles; wellness products and woodcraft. Of those selected, 34% will be exhibiting at Bloom for the first time, reflecting the continued growth and diversity of the sector, while 23 makers are returning after participating for a number of years.

The DCCI Irish Craft Village has delivered strong commercial success for participating makers, generating over €1 million in sales over the past four years. Located at the heart of the festival, the DCCI Irish Craft Village continues to provide a high-profile platform for Ireland’s talented designers and makers, while encouraging consumers to support local craftsmanship and sustainable Irish businesses. Those looking to shop, can explore a wide selection of Made Local brands within the village, with exhibitors including Capulet and Montague; Run Baby Run Pottery; Bofin Weaves and Siobhán Daly Designs. Each maker brings a distinctive perspective and craftsmanship, offering pieces that are both meaningful and made to last. A full list of exhibitors is available below.

New to Bord Bia Bloom this year, DCCI will also host two talks on the Sustainable Living Stage on Saturday, 30th May and Sunday, 31st May.

At 10.30am on Saturday, 30th May, DCCI will host a panel discussion on The Future of Irish Wool: Heritage, Sustainability & Innovation. A fashion show will open the proceedings, featuring Irish designers and brands working with Irish wool and Irish woven textiles. The panel discussion will then explore the future of Irish wool through the lens of sustainability, heritage manufacturing, farming, fashion and textile innovation. Bringing together experts from Irish textile manufacturing and wool production and design including Alison Gault, Chair, Irish Grown Wool Council and Professor, Belfast School of Art; Patrick Temple, CEO, Magee Weaving; Chris Weiniger, Donegal Yarns and moderated by sustainable fashion stylist, journalist, podcast host and creative director, Roxanne Parker, the discussion will examine the challenges currently facing the Irish wool industry.

At 11.15am on Sunday, 31st May, DCCI will host a panel discussion on Irish Linen: Heritage Craft, Contemporary Fashion & Sustainable Futures. A fashion show will open the proceedings, featuring Irish designers and brands working with Irish linen. Following this, the panel discussion will explore the rich heritage and evolving future of Irish linen through weaving, fashion, sustainability and endangered craft practices. Featuring voices from Irish linen manufacturing, fashion and research including Rosie Temple from Magee 1866; Alison Gault, Chair, Irish Grown Wool Council and Professor, Belfast School of Art; Kevin Devlin, General Manager, William Clark & Sons; Anneliese Fallon Duffy, Founder, Linen Shirt Company, and moderated by Roxanne Parker, the discussion will examine the cultural significance of Irish linen. The panel will also explore how contemporary Irish designers and makers are reimagining linen within modern fashion, while responding to growing global interest in sustainable natural fibres and traceable production.

In addition, the DCCI Irish Craft Village will host a dynamic programme of live demonstrations from DCCI’s Guilds, Associations, Networks and Societies (GANS) over the course of the weekend. These sessions will offer festivalgoers a closer look at traditional and contemporary craft techniques, with seven participating groups including Feltmakers Ireland; Fibreshed Ireland; Guild of Irish Lacemakers; Irish Artist Blacksmiths Association; Irish Patchwork Society; Irish Woodturners Guild; and Na Píobairí Uilleann, highlighting the rich heritage and evolving innovation within Ireland’s craft sector.

Taking place from Thursday, 28th May to Monday, 1st June at The Phoenix Park, the DCCI Irish Craft Village will once again form a central part of the popular festival experience as part of DCCI’s Made Local campaign. Visitors can discover thoughtfully made, locally produced pieces while supporting Irish businesses through the Made Local initiative. A full list of participants can be found here.
