Biography Sophie Longwill graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2016. In 2021 her work was selected for the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland’s Portfolio 2021-2022, granted an Agility Award by the Arts Council of Ireland, Makers to Masters Award by Bradley: the Brand Agency and In the Window solo exhibition award at Bluecoat Display Center, Liverpool. Her work has been selected for international and national exhibitions and can be found in the collections of Irish Life, Dublin, Kildare County Council, DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, Czech Republic and International Biennale of Glass, Bulgaria. Artist Statement I capture fleeting moments of everyday life in paper-thin glass. My current series Nubivagant (Cloud Wanderer) is inspired by dramatic skies and lucid dreams. Soft colours are translated into delicate discs of pâte-de-verre (glass paste) then allowed to gently fold in the kiln, resulting in vessels that are like windows to other realms holding the serenity of the natural world. In everything I make I am trying to capture a sense of wonder, to transpose transient and intangible moments into visible form. The delicate fragility inherent in glass as a material accentuates the impression of ephemerality and preciousness.
