Working primarily with porcelain, I make refined, wheel-thrown forms that serve as canvases for richly textured glaze surfaces. The work explores an interplay of order and flow, drawing on patterns and structures found in sources ranging from the Irish landscape to geometry. I use photography to capture images and ideas, focusing on texture, pattern and structure, which are translated onto the surface through gestural glaze application, printing, or trailer mark making. The glazes I use, derived from natural sources such as minerals and wood ash, have a distinct character of their own, introducing an element of unpredictability to the outcome.
