Drawn to the ‘Great Outdoors’ since I was old enough to walk, most of my adult life has been spent close to nature, living and working in many different places, from the equatorial jungles of Congo and Gabon to the rugged, rocky coast of the Norwegian Arctic. In every place I’ve been, a good knife has gone with me. Ever since our ancestors first knapped flint over two and a half million years ago a good, sharp edge has been an essential part of our interaction with ‘the wild’. Despite the wealth of modern technology that surrounds us, most of us still use this simplest of tools every single day of our lives.
