Discover sustainable making through traditional Irish craft, textile repair, upcycling and innovative design.
One of two workshops at the Leitrim Design House, led by Cycle Up Textiles, an initiative of Roscommon Women’s Network and a circular economy social enterprise focused on textile upcycling, combines repair, upcycling and creative textile engraving. Bring along clothing, bags, household textiles or fabric to repair, alter or transform, with guidance from experienced facilitators. Learn simple mending techniques, repair damaged items or explore creative ways to give unwanted textiles a new purpose.
Fab Lab Maker Hub will join the session, giving participants the opportunity to use laser engraving technology to personalise their textiles or create unique patches from scrap materials. Denim and leather work particularly well. Basic materials and equipment will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring their own items.
Reflecting the Theme: Fáilte Future Europe
Our workshops reflect Fáilte Future Europe by combining Irish craft heritage with contemporary, sustainable approaches to making. Through willow basketry, textile repair, upcycling and laser engraving, we invite new communities to share skills, exchange ideas and explore how traditional practices can evolve for the future. The programme creates a welcoming space for participation, learning and connection through sustainable design.
