Design & Crafts Council Ireland’s Irish Craft Village introduces The Makers’ Studio demonstrations for the first time –
Design & Crafts Council Ireland’s Irish Craft Village returns to Bord Bia Bloom this week as Ireland’s largest garden festival takes place in Dublin’s Phoenix Park from Thursday June 2nd to Monday June 6th. Visitors will have the opportunity to browse and buy handmade pieces by some of Ireland’s most creative craft brands at the Irish Craft Village. With 28 exhibitors showcasing and selling their products, as well as six brands demonstrating how they create such pieces in The Makers’ Studio; the Irish Craft Village is not to be missed. From salvaged materials to bamboo products, this year a key focus at the Irish Craft Village is sustainability.
The DCCI Makers’ Studio at Bord Bia Bloom will see demonstrations from craftspeople across a range of disciplines – highlighting the creativity and craftsmanship in their work. Participants in this year’s Makers’ Studio include Lynn Kenny, Betzy Nina of Sandia Dublin, Klaus Hartmann and Helke Kahle of Baurnafea Studio, Suzanne Clarke of Clarke’s of Dublin, Anouk O’Connell and Frederique van Buuren of Olannmor and Alison Byrne of WildBird Studio. Visitors can enjoy seeing the process from raw material through to finished product across a variety of disciplines from jewellery making to pottery, basketmaking to weaving, soapmaking to textile and glass art. Makers’ Studio sessions take place on the hour each day from 10am-12pm and from 2pm-4pm (no booking necessary).
Throughout the day, visitors to the Irish Craft Village can also watch craft collectives demonstrate at their stands; Irish Artist Blacksmiths Association, Irish Woodturners Guild, Irish Patchwork Society, Guild of Irish Lacemakers, and Feltmakers Ireland will all display their craft techniques and processes throughout the four days of the show. Visitors can drop by and chat with the makers, to gain a greater understanding of their skills and inspiration.
And for those that love to shop there are a wealth of options in the Irish Craft Village with brands such as Kopper Kreation, who use reclaimed and recycled materials, JANDO, Orla Culligan Ceramics, Coolree Design and Jerpoint Glass Studio setting up shop for the 5 days of the show. Each of the 28 brands featured in this area create stunning handmade products that will be sure to tempt and inspire. A full list of exhibitors can be seen below.
