GET INVOLVED IN AN INCREDIBLE CELEBRATION OF LOCAL CRAFT IN IRELAND THIS AUGUST
21st July 2022: The countdown is on to August Craft Month, a celebration of vibrant local craft in Ireland across the entire month. The programme includes a whole host of unique events, with this year bringing together more people than ever before.
Thanks to a unique initiative involving Design & Crafts Council Ireland, Craft NI and Cork Craft & Design, everyone can get involved in August Craft Month this summer, with unmissable opportunities to experience, participate in, support, buy and learn about the stand-out craft sector across the island.
There is a packed programme of over 200 eclectic events in all corners of the island, from workshops, exhibitions, fun festivals, insightful talks and tutorials. People can immerse in creative craft celebrations on their doorstep, as well as hit the road on a craft inspired adventure or staycation.
Showcasing the growing creative talent on the island, the initiative will allow people uncover rich craft stories and hear from renowned Irish makers known across the globe, as well as new undiscovered creatives making waves in the local craft world.
There are hands-on events from a diverse range of craft disciplines, from ceramists, textile makers, glassblowers, jewellery makers and many more. Makers such as Joe Hogan, Jim Turner, Scott Benefield and Andrea Spencer will all be involved in the celebration, to name a few.
Craft NI, Design & Crafts Council Ireland and Cork Craft & Design have come together to deliver the largest August Craft Month to date, across all corners of the island.
Commenting on the partnership and launch of August Craft Month for 2022, Katherine McDonald, Director, Craft NI said, “We are really excited about the August Craft Month programme this year, launching across the whole island. It is a wonderful opportunity for people to get to know talented makers and learn about the craftsmanship and skills needed to produce the beautiful pieces we can own and cherish.
“The events are truly unique and also offer audiences a chance to have a go and push ourselves to try something new, guided by a skilled local maker. “
