Wednesday, 4th December 2024: 60 makers from Design & Crafts Council Ireland Made Local campaign are taking part in this year’s contemporary craft fair, Gifted, which returns to the RDS Dublin from Wednesday, 4th December to Sunday, 8th December. This Christmas, as shoppers search for presents for loved ones at Gifted, DCCI is encouraging them to visit the Made Local space and choose quality, locally made and sustainable products.
Made Local champions the originality, quality and value of Irish designed and crafted products, and the makers and retailers behind them. 77 makers from across Ireland will exhibit at this year Gifted including Angela D’Arcy Jewellery from Dublin, Decca Design from Meath, Clare Butler Ceramics from Limerick, Ceramifique from Cork, Fiona Herbst Jewellery from Donegal, and Living Ginger Designs from Galway.
Heather Humphreys, Minister for Rural and Community Development and Minister for Social Protection, said: I’m delighted to officially open Gifted today and see the extraordinary talent and creativity of our craftspeople in the dedicated Design & Crafts Council Ireland Made Local area. At a time when shoppers are looking for value, Made Local reminds shoppers that buying locally produced gifts this Christmas is much more meaningful and sustainable. I encourage all visitors to Gifted to explore the diverse range of handcrafted goods on display and see the dedication and passion that goes into each piece. As Minister for Rural and Community Development, I’m proud to see events like Gifted providing vital opportunities for our makers, many of which are located across our rural towns and villages, to showcase their work at such a key retail time as Christmas.”
Mary Blanchfield, Interim CEO at Design & Crafts Council Ireland, said: “This year Design & Crafts Council Ireland’s has over 90 DCCI members involved at the show, with 78 makers from our Made Local campaign. At the Design & Crafts Council Ireland, we are committed to supporting the growth and recognition of Irish craft, and Gifted plays a key role in this mission. This fair is a great opportunity to connect designers and craftspeople with new customers and get the Made Local message out to a new audience.”
Patrick O’Sullivan, CEO of Gifted, said: “As we open the doors to Gifted 2024, we are delighted to welcome back Design & Crafts Council Ireland’s Made Local space. This year’s fair will see 300 designers and makers and over 100 artisan food producers set out their stalls to 35,000 shoppers over the course of five days. We are incredibly proud of the diverse range of talent on display this year and look forward to seeing how this event continues to grow year on year.”
