Driven by her passion for art and finding unique, affordable jewelry, April started Leafy South Designs in her art studio in Glenageary, Dublin. After selling out at local markets, she came across the opportunity to trade at Blackrock Market, where customers can see, feel, and try on her handmade necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.
In addition to her jewellery, April also offers a selection of local artisan products, including candles, clay jewellery, throws, handbags, and household ornaments. Her shop has grown into more than just a charming place to visit and admire beautiful creations; it has become a supportive community of artisans working together.
I start with a coffee while browsing over my materials to gain inspiration. I either decide to make a beach scene frames canvas using all locally sourced materials from Killiney and Sandycove beaches. I delicatley arrange the sand, seashells, seaweed, dried flowers from my garden and other pieces on the frame until I am happy with how it looks and feels. Then I tend to step away for a while before coming back for a second view and deciding to set it all using resin. In between art canvas, I continue making my necklaces and earnings mixing colours and resin before pouring and setting each pendant or earrings.
After this, I sand and polish any piece that needs a littl fine tuning before bringing all the finished art and jewellery to my shop in the Blackrock Market to be displayed for the customer.
Patience is key. A craft career is one that will have you constantly evolving and learning in order to perfect your craft, and with this come many mistakes. It's easy to get frustrated with yourself, but if you choose to be patient and push on, you will be pleasantly surprised at how far you'll actually go.

Probably the morning, when I am fired up and most creative.
How do you switch off?
I go for walks with my husband and doggie or I play music while cooking up a storm in the kitchen and sipping a glass of Chardonnay.
