Meet the Maker

Sayers Studio creates original paintings, prints & greeting cards. Hannah concentrates mainly on the flora and fauna of Ireland, getting a lot of inspiration from her hometown on the Dingle Peninsular in co. Kerry. Hannah graduated from NCAD (National College of Art & Design) over 10 years ago where she studied Art & Design Education.

What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?

There is never a typical day in the studio and that’s what I like about it. I could be working on a collection one day and the next I could be printing and packaging cards. I don’t like to sit still, I’m constantly trying different techniques or learning new craft skills.

Be prepared to work hard, you think working for yourself will be great and it is but you also have to live and breathe your craft 24/7 and hope one day the hard work will pay off.

What do you like most about your work?

I love the feeling of freedom to express yourself through different mediums and that feeling of excitement when you get a fresh canvas and can’t wait to get into the studio and start making a mess.

What’s your favourite craft item in your home?

At Christmas our house is filled with fellow crafters works. I especially love Tamsin Lundy Designs felt decorations, so fun and quirky.

How do you switch off?

I don’t think I ever switch off, I’m constantly thinking about new ideas.

What advice would you give someone who is considering this craft career?

Be prepared to work hard, you think working for yourself will be great and it is but you also have to live and breathe your craft 24/7 and hope one day the hard work will pay off.

How do you start your day?

Quick breakfast, school run, and then home to the studio.
