An exhibition exploring the space between music, image and landscape
Can a landscape become sound? And can music not only be heard — but seen?
This exhibition explores the meeting point of music, image and landscape, asking how design can give sound unexpected new forms. At its centre is Anseo, an audiovisual work by composer Alastair White and curator Gemma A. Williams, inspired by the tradition of the graphic score.
Anseo brings together moving image and spoken word to approach landscape as a symbolic text: something that can be read, interpreted and performed. Filmed across Tipperary, the work invites us to look at our sense of place differently, and to imagine the sounds, music and meanings that might be hidden within it.
The exhibition also features White’s performance piece 11 Maps for a Chalk Ridge, a series of graphic scores that reimagine the landscape of the South Downs through visual notation. Together, the works trace a wider fascination with the relationship between image, language and sound, and with the possibility of composing music beyond the classical language.
The exhibition takes place at Echo Space, the newly launched gallery at Nenagh Arts Centre, Tipperary, from 10–24 November 2026.

Reflecting the Theme: Fáilte Future Europe
Anseo: Music As Design draws on the Irish concept of “Walking the Land”, bringing together ideas of landscape, hospitality and belonging. The work considers how we encounter and inhabit a place while asking what it means to belong. In this sense, Anseo speaks directly to the theme of “Fáilte Future Europe”, using landscape as a space in which ideas of welcome, identity and belonging can be reimagined for the future.
