A day of presentations, conversations, exhibitions and community building to strengthen local textile value chains in Ireland and Europe.
For its fifth annual symposium, Fibreshed Ireland will bring together farmers, processors, designers, makers, researchers, and consumers from around the island and beyond, to offer solutions for the challenges of shortening value chains in the European textile industry.
Accessing locally-grown and processed wool, linen, and hemp is difficult, not just in Ireland, but in most European countries. By sharing knowledge and establishing intra-European partnerships with like-minded individuals and organisations, we can address these obstacles in imaginative and life-supporting ways.
Just like the resilience of an ecosystem is rooted in a series of entangled relationships between diverse beings, our interconnected textile ecosystem must also be based on collaboration between unlikely partners, if we are to successfully navigate the increasingly unstable climate ahead.
As well as engaging presentations, panel discussions, and a film screening, there will be exhibitions and interactive displays throughout the venue. All tickets include a delicious lunch that caters to all dietary needs.

Reflecting the Theme: Fáilte Future Europe
Fibreshed Ireland’s annual symposium during Irish Design Week has become a key moment in the calendar for natural fibre enthusiasts, growers, makers, and researchers over the past four years.
This year, under the Irish Design Week theme of Fáilte Future Europe, we will expand our focus beyond the island’s shores. For the first time, we will invite two speakers from other European countries, who will contribute their expertise to answer the questions: how do we shorten textile value chains to support local economies, ecologies, and communities? What can we learn from each other and how may we collaborate to face the common challenges of a changing climate and little processing infrastructure?
